June 2022 (Around Boston – about 1hr30min from Boston)
Mt Monadnock is the closest hike from Boston with a little bit of elevation (550m). The hike is fun with nice views. Few interesting Breweries are located between the hike and Boston, a non-exhaustive list includes: River Styx Brewing, Thirsty Robot Brewing and Post & Beam brewing.
The Booze – Thirsty Robot Brewing (UNTAPPD 3.82)
Overall atmosphere: Located at the end of a parking lot the brewery has a nice taproom and a cool terrace. We like the decoration of the taproom with a lot of references to the brewery name. The location offers basic food but we already had our lunch. Overall the atmosphere is very cool.
The Booze: We try one flight each to have a good overview of the different beers. The overall quality is good and the brewery does have a good choice of beers. (Follow us on UNTAPPD to see our ratings)
The Hike – Mt Monadnock
Hike: This is not mountain hiking but the elevation (550m) does add a little bit of sport. We do the loop following the white Dot and White cross trails. Both trails are relatively technical with a lot of rocks. The start of the hike is mainly in the forest, as we take some elevation we start to have nice views of the surrounding areas. The last part of the hike is fully outside of the forest on large rocks. The top offers a 360 views and is often a little bit crowded. We advise going down a little bit to find a picnic spot protected from the wind and with fewer people.
Direction: This is a heavily trafficked route in a state park. You can follow the GPS trace from AllTrails “Mount Monadnock via White Dot and White Cross Trails“. In order to have a parking spot you have to use the state park online reservation system here. We usually park at the Monadnock HQ reservation. This location contains a restroom and you can ask questions to Rangers.
